Take Action: Protect Arizona's National Monuments before it's too late!
Unless you've been hiding under a rock (we wouldn't blame you if you have), you likely know the Trump administration has placed our national monuments on the chopping block. The Department of Interior is reviewing national monuments greater than 100,000 acres in size that were designated since 1996 under the Antiquities Act, determining if they should be reduced in size or dismantled altogether.
This assault includes four monuments in Arizona: Grand Canyon-Parashant, Vermilion Cliffs, Sonoran Desert, and Ironwood Forest. Each of these is on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and was designated to protect cultural and historic sites, rare and diverse wildlife and plants, fascinating geology, recreation opportunities, and more. These monuments are important for our state and our nation and should remain intact.
Secretary Zinke recently recommended that Bears Ears National Monument be substantially reduced in size. Although no official decision has been made, we fear that he may have similar recommendations for other monuments.
Please, speak out on the importance of our monuments!
