Once again, polluter-funded members of Congress are hell-bent on hijacking the government funding process to ram through a spending package that cuts deep into key environmental priorities and targets crucial public health protections. The spending package is riddled with toxic anti-environmental riders as it heads to the floor.
A batch of toxic “riders”—legislative threats inserted into must-pass bills that they have nothing to do with—in this year’s spending bill would exploit our national forests and public lands, attack vital clean water and clean air safeguards, target endangered species, and undermine the public’s ability to hold our government and wealthy polluters accountable when they break environmental protection laws.
Urge members of Congress to advance a spending bill that is free of poisonous riders and adequately funds priorities to keep our communities healthy and safe. Tell your legislators to oppose ALL anti-environmental riders in government spending legislation.
Riders have to “ride” on other legislative packages because they’re too unpopular to pass on their own. This isn’t how the legislative process should work. By allowing controversial riders on spending bills, Congress evades public scrutiny. We need good governance—not backdoor assaults on our fundamental environmental protections.
These riders are attacks on the environment and public health. We need clean water to live. We shouldn’t have to pay for cleaning up toxic industry messes. And popular public lands and science-based species protections should never be gutted arbitrarily by politicians in Congress.
CALL NOW! Urge your Members of Congress to oppose all anti-environmental riders.
