Sign Petition to Protect Clean Car Standards

Under the last administration, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition Political Action Committee made significant progress fighting pollution and climate change. One big step was stronger fuel efficiency rules for cars and light trucks. After all, some 20% of all carbon emissions come from cars and trucks -- about 24 pounds of CO2 for every gallon of gas!

But under Donald Trump, the EPA and Department of Transportation are set to put us in reverse. Their plan? A total rollback of Obama-era fuel efficiency and emissions standards. It makes no sense. Fighting global climate change and pollution starts at home and starts with us. We can save people money at the pump and create jobs, but only if we fight to keep the fuel efficiency standards.

Send comment asking Department of Transportation to address climate change by keeping greenhouse gas measurement and planning requirements in MAP-21 regulations

Transportation is now the largest source of climate-busting greenhouse gas emissions in America. The federal government does have important tools available to reduce these emissions. One such tool — the MAP-21 pollution rule — requires federal transportation planners to measure the climate change impact of transportation projects, and to plan to reduce emissions.

But as part of the Trump administration’s broader attack on climate action and clean energy, the U.S. Department of Transportation is now trying to weaken the rule. 

Help NRDC defend action against climate pollution from transit. Tell the DOT you support MAP-21’s strong requirements to measure — and reduce — climate pollution from transportation. DOT comments are due by midnight on Monday, Nov. 6, so please act fast.

I support the MAP-21 requirement that transportation projects supported by the federal government account for climate change pollution. I am very concerned about climate change and its devastating impacts on our environment and the health of families and children. MAP-21 is an important tool for addressing climate change because transportation is now the largest source of climate pollution in America. 

I urge you to ensure the Department of Transportation does its part in our country’s effort to address climate change by keeping greenhouse gas measurement and planning requirements in MAP-21 regulations.
