Despite years of promises and using seniors as political props, Trump has nominated someone with zero relevant experience as the next commissioner of Social Security.1 In fact, Andrew Saul's only connection to Social Security is that he serves on the board of the Manhattan Institute – a racist, right-wing think tank that pushes for drastic cuts to the program millions of Americans rely upon.2 Saul is unfit to lead the Social Security Administration – but his nomination could come up for a vote soon after the midterm elections. Saul has more in common with Donald Trump than he does experience on Social Security. Both Trump and Saul seem to believe being wealthy means they are above the law. Saul was caught allegedly impersonating a police officer in order to escape a trespassing charge. He also dropped out of a congressional race after accepting improper campaign donations.3 Saul, like Trump, also pals around with racists. The Manhattan Institute granted a prestigious platform to notorious racist Charles Murray, who argues that white people are genetically smarter and superior to Black and Latinx people.4 Neither Saul nor Trump care about Social Security. For Trump, the earned benefits that millions of Americans rely on are nothing more than opportunities to launch attacks on Democrats while partnering with Paul Ryan to make cuts. Saul, meanwhile, has zero experience with Social Security – except that the Manhattan Institute thinks Social Security is "too generous" and needs drastic cuts.5 Saul is another unqualified Trump pick - out to make changes that will hurt Americans. Since its inception, Wall Street has wanted to get its hands on Social Security. The financial industry has tried to cut and privatize our earned benefits and sow a seed of doubt about Social Security’s future―even though Social Security has built up a $2.8 trillion trust fund, can pay out 100% of benefits owed for the next 17 years and 77% of benefits after that.

 
Now, in a cynical attempt to undermine public confidence in the program, Senate Republicans are proposing a $492 million cut to the Social Security Administration―a move that will make it more difficult for the American people to access our heard-earned benefits.

The majority of Medicaid beneficiaries are children and working-age adults, Medicaid spends more money on long term care for seniors and people with disabilities than anything else.5 Social Security, meanwhile, is totally funded for the next two decades – longer if everyone pays at the same rate – and the only retirement income that most Americans can count on.6 Donald Trump repeatedly pledged during the 2016 campaign not to attack Medicare, Medicaid or our Social Security system but he has since seriously undermined these programs. Ryan’s ultimate goal is to end Medicare as we know it and replace it with a privatized program.7 Now, Trump and his lapdogs in Congress are not just coming after Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, they are attacking programs like Meals on Wheels, SNAP, and other nutritional assistance that families rely on. Republicans are whipping up a fake deficit hysteria after giving massive giveaways to the rich as a Trojan horse to attack our earned benefits. We must go all out to resist any cuts. Time to take back our country

Our Senators have disregarded the will of the people. In this time of great income inequality, both houses have passed tax plans that give huge tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations at the expense of the rest of us.

These tax plans will increase the deficit by 1.4 trillion dollars which will lead to dismantling vital social safety nets such as medicaid, medicare and even social security. Remember the uproar when they tried to dismantle the Affordable Care Act? This bill has a sneaky provision that would destroy it. But it's not only the elderly who will suffer. Students would no longer be able to deduct the interest from their college loans. Tuition waivers for graduate students would be considered taxable income. This bill would also be devastating to our wildlife. Despite whole species going extinct everyday from lack of habitats, this bill would allow oil companies to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

This bill disregards the needs of the American people. It increases the financial divide by handing over billions of dollars to the richest people the planet has ever known. They will have even more expendable income to buy our politicians. They will end up privatizing our decaying infrastructure - including our depleted waterways. They will OWN US.

We can't take this lying down. We have got to do everything we can to stop this disastrous tax bill from destroying the country as we know it. Protect working families: Stop Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy & corporations!

President Trump, Republican leaders in Congress and a massive special-interest lobbying machine (run by the Koch brothers and corporate America) are gearing up to give massive tax breaks to millionaires and wealthy corporations. They want to pay for them by cutting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, public education and other critical services for working families.

President Trump and Republican leaders have proposed budgets that would slash between $4 trillion and $6 trillion from those services we all depend on—just so that they can afford huge tax cuts of similar amounts that would further enrich billionaires and big corporations and encourage the offshoring of jobs. This is the health care fight all over again. We can win, but only if we all speak out.

Any tax and budget plans you support must meet the following principles:

• The wealthy and big corporations must be required to pay their fair share of taxes. They must not get one penny in new tax cuts.
• Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and services that protect the most vulnerable must not be put at risk of cuts. Congress must raise the revenue needed to fund investments that create millions of new jobs rebuilding roads and bridges, educating our children, expanding health care, researching new medical cures and ensuring a secure retirement for seniors.
• Tax breaks should be eliminated that encourage multinational corporations to shift jobs and profits offshore. Corporations should pay what they owe on current offshore profits. And Congress should not establish new tax rates for overseas earnings that encourage companies to stash money abroad.
• Congress must not use a fast-track, partisan process, known as reconciliation, to pass tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations that lose revenue.
