Net neutrality prevents corporations from deciding what we see or do online. It is vital to our movements for equity and civil rights in the digital age. Imagine if you weren't able to receive this very email or take action on issues you care about because your internet service provider deemed this information unworthy of being online.Just one year ago, the Trump administration gutted vital net neutrality protections.Now, Big Telecom is trying to censor us, slow down our service, and impose unfair and high fees. You can do something about this today by telling the Senate to support the Save the Internet Act and restore the free and open internet. Every issue, from racial justice to climate justice, needs net neutrality.1 But net neutrality gets in the way of Big Telecom's greed, and it's lobbying hard to make sure net neutrality doesn't come back. That's why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is refusing to bring the Save the Internet Act up for a vote in the Senate – he wants less equality and more profits for his corporate backers.2 The majority of Americans support net neutrality, and it shows.3 We signed petitions, sent letters, called, and even showed up at our lawmakers' offices to tell them to save the internet.4 Our pressure is working. Just last year, the Senate did the right thing and voted to undo the net neutrality repeal, though their vote was blocked by the Republican-controlled House.5 This year, we pushed Democrats in the House of Representatives to recognize net neutrality as a core issue and pass the Save the Internet Act.6 If we can get the Senate to support the Save the Internet Act, we can win our free and open internet back.This won't be easy. The loss of the open internet was huge and harmful to all of our communities, but champions for civil rights never back down when facing hurdles. This current fight for net neutrality is no different. The Senate has supported net neutrality before. We must push it to support it again and keep the pressure on all members of Congress until they give us back our free and open internet. Sign the petition today to restore Net Neutrality

We have the opportunity to restore net neutrality protections for the nation. Congress has until Monday, December 10 to sign a Congressional Review Act (CRA) to reverse the FCC’s disastrous regulations on net neutrality.

Millions of dedicated people like yourself took to the streets, signed petitions, and made calls to protest the decision made by Ajit Pai’s FCC. In response, we passed the strongest net neutrality bill in the country (Senate Bill 822) in California -- but that’s not enough. If we speak out and tap into the energy we had then, we can convince our legislators to restore net neutrality for the entire nation.

If we don’t restore net neutrality, internet service providers (ISPs) can intentionally slow down, block, or charge more to allow prioritized access to specific websites and online content. Net neutrality is necessary in our lives and allows for fair access to the internet, whether you are a journalist, a local activist, or an avid social media user. But we’re up against those pushing for the repeal of net neutrality: huge telecom corporations like Verizon, AT&T, and Comcast. We must demand that our legislators listen to us, not corporations.

The good news is the Senate has already passed the CRA with a bipartisan vote, meaning we can restore net neutrality with a majority vote if we get House members on board. Will you join us once again in demanding a fair internet for all?

Tell California legislators to pass the net neutrality bills SB 822 and SB 460

California has the most comprehensive state-level net neutrality bills in the country.(1) Senate Bill 822 (Wiener) and Senate Bill 460 (de Leon) would restore all of the net neutrality protections that were stripped by the FCC last year.

But Big Telecom isn’t going down without a fight. They’re doing everything in their power to block passage of SB 822 and SB 460, or at least water down the bills.

States are quickly moving to restore net neutrality protections and aren’t being stopped by the FCC, which doesn’t have authority over state law.(2)  California is home to some of the world’s largest internet companies and can set an example for the nation -- including your home state. Will you join us and our partners in demanding that California legislators uphold a fair and open internet for all?

Tell California legislators to pass the net neutrality bills SB 822 and SB 460.

With the net neutrality repeal in effect, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T are allowed to charge us to access websites and services. But SB 822 and SB 460 would restore in California the net neutrality protections gutted by the FCC’s disastrous decision. If passed, ISPs would be prohibited from blocking content, slowing certain sites or services, or charging new fees for users and companies to reach audiences online.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has claimed that with the new federal net neutrality policy, states cannot circumvent federal law and make their own. However, there isn’t even consensus among legal experts as to if that statement is true with the FCC’s limited power.(3) Washington state just passed their own net neutrality bill, and many other states are moving to do the same. We need to keep up the momentum.

Eighty-three percent of Americans want a free and open Internet.(4) SB 822 and SB 460 would fill this gap for Californians after the FCC stripped consumers of their rights. But Big Telecom lobbyists are using all their resources in states across the country to block legislation that would restore protections for us. Will you help us fight back and win net neutrality in California -- setting an example for even more states to follow?

The letter is signed by local small businesses demanding Congress protect mainstreet from greedy corporations—all constituents are encouraged to attend!

This is the single most important thing you can do to help save the open Internet. Similar events were crucial to passing the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution in the Senate, which would restore net neutrality protections gutted by the FCC. Now we need 218 Representatives to do the same in the House. 175 representatives have already signed on—but your representative is not yet one of them!

Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before, many people will be attending an event like this for the first time. We’ll provide all the information and resources you need to make the event a success, and we’ll be recruiting others from your community to join.

I wanted to make sure you saw that we have a huge chance to to save net neutrality. If we act now, there is still time to protect the free and open internet.

Last week, the Federal Communication Commission’s repeal of net neutrality took effect. Yeah — it’s bad. But here’s the good news: Thanks to your activism, we have a real shot to keep the internet open for activism by restoring net neutrality.

Last month, we got the Senate to overturn the FCC’s repeal and vote to save net neutrality by flooding the Senate with millions of calls and emails from constituents like you. And together, we won an against-the-odds bipartisan victory using an unprecedented tactic called a discharge petition to bring back the open internet.

Now, we need to force the House to pass the same kind of resolution to save net neutrality. So we need to drive a huge wave of grassroots pressure just like we did in the Senate. And with net neutrality rules officially lapsed, we’ve got no time to lose. That’s where you come in.

As of now, AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast are allowed to create fast and slow lanes on the internet to drown out our voices.

Instead, we have people power to drive relentless grassroots pressure on Congress. And thanks to net neutrality, our people power is strong enough to go toe-to-toe with the defense lobby — and win.

But now, the net neutrality rules that keep our voices loud and clear are over. And if we don’t step in, our grassroots power for peace could be throttled, too.
