Tell Democrats: Co-Sponsor Medicare for All
A new poll just found that up to 71 percent of Americans support Medicare for All.1 It comes on the heels of the November elections that swept in a wave of pro-Medicare for All progressive champions.
But Washington consultants are warning Democrats to stay away from Medicare for All, according to one worrisome new report.2
We need to rally behind progressive Rep. Pramila Jayapal's Medicare for All legislation to show support for bold action. Can you help?
Washington consultants want Democrats to focus on defending the Affordable Care Act from Republican sabotage and push other changes "down the road."3 Meanwhile, there are a raft of "Medicare for More" proposals from Democrats that would introduce Medicare as a public option, and some are better than others.4What is important right now is to build support in Congress for the strongest possible Medicare for All legislation – from Progressive Caucus co-chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal – to remind Democrats where the progressive base of the party stands.
Medicare and Medicaid are our nation’s most effective and efficient health care programs, but right-wing Republicans have long had their sights set on dismantling our social safety net. Now, Trump is helping them do it. Their ultimate goal has been to end Medicare as we know it and cause skyrocketing premiums and loss of coverage for nearly 57 million of us. We cannot fight back with half-hearted, corporate solutions.
Predatory insurance companies and Big Pharma stand between people and their doctors and use monopoly power to rob us blind. Medicare for All would replace the for-profit leeches that drive up costs without making us any healthier. Even one recent right-wing study found that Medicare for All would result in more health care coverage and better outcomes while reducing overall U.S. medical costs.5 Medicare for All would also improve the program for today's seniors by including younger people and adding dental and hearing coverage into Medicare.
Medicare for All has become the mainstream, common-sense position. But with many conservative Democrats resisting and other Democrats floating limited proposals, we need to strengthen progressives' bargaining hand by pushing Democrats to co-sponsor the boldest possible Medicare for All legislation.

Tell congressional Democrats to join the Medicare for All Caucus

All congressional Democrats should join the Medicare for All Caucus
This year, more Democrats campaigned for office supporting Medicare for All than ever before – and they were swept to victory in a massive wave.
In 2010, only 27 percent of Democratic candidates supported something like Medicare for All and Democrats lost their majority in the House of Representatives. This year, voters looked at a Democratic slate where more than 58 percent of candidates supported Medicare for All – and gave them control of the House.1
More than 70 House Democrats have launched a new Medicare for All Caucus to fight for this commonsense, life-saving and cost-reducing solution.2 But after the ringing endorsement of voters, we need to make sure every other Democrat gets the message and joins the Medicare for All Caucus.
Despite eight years of Republican attacks on the Affordable Care Act and universal health care coverage, the midterms showed that voters demand more and better healthcare. Voters in red states demanded the expansions of Medicaid that Republicans once blocked. Republican members of Congress were punished for trying to repeal the ACA. And a new wave of Democrats was swept into office while openly declaring their support for Medicare for All.3
Predatory insurance companies and Big Pharma stand between people and their doctors and use monopoly power to rob us blind. Medicare for All would replace the for-profit leeches that drive up costs without making us any healthier. Even one recent right-wing study found that Medicare for All would result in more health care coverage and better outcomes while reducing overall U.S. medical costs.4 Medicare for All would also improve the program for today's seniors by including younger people and adding dental and hearing coverage into Medicare.
Medicare for All has become the mainstream, common-sense position. Even some newly elected Democrats who intend to join the corporate "New Democrat" caucus actually support Medicare for All.5 But with many conservative Democrats still resisting, we need to build big momentum for Medicare for All going into the new Congress.
Medicare already covers 40 million Americans over the age of 65, providing quality care at prices that are much lower than the private market. If we start by lowering the Medicare eligibility age, it will provide competition to bloated predatory insurance companies and bring us closer to the day when people are covered from birth.
After Nov. 8, every Democrat should have heard the message loud and clear – but some may need a bit more volume. That's where we come in.

Tell your Democrats: Join the Medicare for All Caucus
Monday, July 30 was the anniversary of the creation of Medicare. For 53 years, Medicare has been providing quality and efficient health care to millions of seniors.1
Today, Trump and his Republican enablers are plotting to privatize Medicare and subject Americans to the whims of for-profit insurers. But the good news is that progressive champions are offering a better alternative: improving Medicare and expanding it to cover all of us.
More than 70 House Democrats have launched a new Medicare for All Caucus to fight for this commonsense, life-saving and cost-reducing solution.2 Now, we need your help to convince every other Democrat to get on board.
American health care costs so much and heals so little in part because predatory insurance companies and Big Pharma stand between people and their doctors and use monopoly power to rob us blind. Medicare for All would leave the medical system in place, but replace the for-profit insurance companies that drive up costs without making us any healthier.
Even one recent right-wing study found that Medicare for All would result in more health care coverage and better outcomes while reducing overall U.S. medical costs.3 Medicare for All would also improve the program for today's seniors by including younger people and adding dental and hearing coverage into Medicare. So it’s no wonder that more than half of Americans support Medicare for All, and nearly two-thirds of voters prefer candidates who support expanding Medicare.4,5
Progressives know that we could solve today’s health care crisis by expanding a program that is already up and running – and working. It is time for the rest of the Democratic party to get on board.
Medicare already covers 40 million Americans over the age of 65, providing quality care at prices that are much lower than the private market. If we start by lowering the Medicare eligibility age, it will provide competition to bloated predatory insurance companies and bring us closer to the day when people are covered from birth.

We cannot fight back with half-hearted, corporate solutions.
Dozens of progressive champions are leading the way. But no Democrat has a good excuse to refuse to join the Medicare for All Caucus. We need to show that the base of the party stands for Medicare for All – and push every Democrat to join in.

Tell Congress to pass Medicare For All

It's time to treat health care as a human right, not a luxury for the healthy and the wealthy.

Right now, Republicans are taking actions to sabotage our health care system. And we're fighting back. But we can do better - we need a simple, seamless, affordable health care system that provides peace of mind instead of stress and anxiety.

We need Medicare for All.

Medicare already covers 40 million Americans over the age of 65, providing high quality care at a cost that is much lower than private health insurance. We need to make this effective and efficient health care program available to every American from birth.

Add your name to make health care simpler and affordable for all Americans!

Sign the petition: Medicare for All!

Health care should be a basic right for everyone in the United States. It's a national shame that so many Americans have to choose between lifesaving health care and going into debt or bankruptcy. Now that we've defended the Affordable Care Act from repeal, we need to improve on its limitations and make sure that no American is uninsured.

16 senators just introduced Medicare for All, single-payer health care legislation  U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders Senator Tammy Baldwin Senator Richard Blumenthal Cory Booker U.S. Senator Al Franken U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand U.S. Senator Kamala Harris Senator Martin Heinrich Senator Mazie K. Hirono Senator Patrick Leahy Senator Edward J. Markey Senator Jeff Merkley Brian Schatz Senator Tom Udall U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

Pleases, support these senators by signing this petition:

To be delivered to The United States House of Representatives and The United States Senate:

The American people are ready for Medicare for All, and it is time for Congress to act. We must ensure that everyone has access to quality, affordable health care—and not at the mercy of private insurance companies that profit by denying care.

Show you care! Demand universal health care

Republican senators have proposed yet another behind-closed-doors attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. It’s distressing that some Members of Congress are hell-bent on betraying their constituents just so their rich donors can get some tax breaks.

But I know that with your help, we will defeat it just like we defeated all other attempts.

Senator Bernie Sanders and 15 co-sponsors have introduced a sensible plan to provide the universal access to health care we desperately need. It’s past time for all elected officials to get on board.

Please urge your senators to join Sen. Bernie Sanders in sponsoring a universal health care plan today!

Nearly 30 million people currently lack health care coverage, primarily low-income communities of color. Sen. Sanders has rightly called the gaps in coverage a “national emergency” and a “moral outrage.”

Thanks to the massive public mobilization against Trumpcare, the Republican scheme to strip health care coverage from millions more has collapsed.

Now is the time to leverage our victory and fight for, and win, universal health care. We all have the right to health care, no matter how much money we have, no matter our employment status. It's time for single-payer Medicare-for-All.

Tell your senators to co-sponsor Medicare-for-All legislation now!

Healthcare? The GOP is back with another We Don't Care bill

The clock is running out on the GOP's attempts to overturn the Affordable Care Act, so of course they have another proposal in the queue to try to "save healthcare," Republican style.

Graham, Cassidy, Heller, and Johnson (sounds like a law firm, doesn't it?) have a grand new plan to shift control of healthcare to the states. Sounds great, right? After all, we've been told innumerable times that the states know best. And this plan promises a lot of the old Republican standards: Health Savings Accounts, rollbacks of employer mandates, and block grants.

As usual, this plan will hurt those who can least afford it: the working poor and the middle class will see their insurance coverage diminish, their premiums go up, and more money out of pocket for deductibles. Small businesses will also see less support for providing health coverage for their employees. And, if you're old or have a pre-existing condition, watch out: the bill doesn't remove the mandate to cover people with pre-existing conditions, but it does allow states to apply for waivers to the law that would allow insurers to charge exorbitant premiums to cover those patients. Also, it dismantles rules prohibiting insurance companies from selling worthless junk policies.

But, there are some who would benefit: medical device manufacturers will see a tax cut, large employers will no longer be required to provide coverage to their employees, and the states that refused to expand medicare coverage to spite President Obama will get a bonus for their loyalty to party, paid for by the states who tried to put their citizens ahead of politics.

Yep. This is exactly the kind of healthcare plan we can expect from today's Republican Party.  One of GOP's rallying calls is that this plan is the last chance to stop Bernie's Medicare for All act.

I personally believe that America should catch up with the rest of the civilized world and provide healthcare for all of us.  But even if you don't want your tax dollars to pay for other people's coverage, look at it this way - you will save money on your healthcare under Bernie's plan. The increase in taxes is MUCH less than the cost of coverage (not even factoring in the cost of the huge deductibles.)

With the GOP's plan block grants will diminish over time forcing states to charge more taxes if they want to keep or expand medicare. The states would have a choice on how they use that money, but only 20% is allowed for medicare. One problem with each state having separate healthcare plans is that we would lose our collective bargaining power so the cost of premiums would go up.

So if our healthcare ends up in the hands of the states, the big question is, "Will my state representatives take care of me and my family?"
