Solutions for Pollution: Tell EPA we need a stronger Soot Rule!

Several Environmental Groups are advocating for clean air. See below for information and links to submit comments to the EPA asking them to strengthen the Soot Rule.

Also, join the Sierra Club at the AZ State Capitol to highlight the proposed Soot Rule and the need for stronger protections for air quality and our health.

MARCH FOR CLEAN AIR

Solutions for Pollution -- Tell EPA we need a stronger Soot Rule!

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to update standards for deadly and dangerous soot pollution (also known as particulate matter pollution or PM 2.5). While they are better than current standards, these new proposed standards are not nearly strong enough to adequately protect public health.

Stronger soot pollution standards will save lives. EPA must set the strongest science-based soot standards to protect our health, advance environmental justice, and ensure clean air for all. By tightening public health protections from soot, EPA could save nearly 20,000 lives a year -- the lives of someone's mother, someone's father, someone's sister, someone's brother, someone's child.

TAKE ACTION: SUBMIT A COMMENT ON SOOT TO THE EPA

The EPA will be taking comments until March 28th. Soot pollution – also known as particulate matter, or PM 2.5, is a dangerous and deadly pollutant that is produced by power plants, vehicle tailpipes, and other industrial sources. The recent standard proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) —9-10μg/m3 and 35μg/m3 (no change) for the 24-hour standard— is not enough to protect our health and is not in line with the best available science. We must call on the EPA to set standards for Soot of no higher than 8 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3) for the annual standard and no higher than 25 μg/m3 for the 24-hour standard.
