Call the White House comment line today and demand an environmental review of the leaky Dakota Access Pipeline.

Huge news! A judge ruled against the Trump administration and ordered them to conduct a broader environmental review of the Dakota Access Pipeline!

This is a big moment in a long fight by the Standing Rock Sioux to protect the river that provides their drinking water. Prior to leaving office, President Obama ordered construction on the pipeline to stop while a thorough environmental review was conducted. Days after his inauguration, Donald Trump cut the public comment period short, ignored the voices of hundreds of thousands of Americans, and credited himself with "[having] the guts to approve the final leg [of DAPL]." Fortunately, it's clear that this fight is far from over, and we're not backing down.

Citizens' support for the Standing Rock Sioux has been a key part of this fight. Now we need to show the Water Protectors that we still have their backs. Donald Trump recently said again that he still hasn't gotten any calls opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline, but we know he's wrong. Call the White House comment line today and tell them that Trump must listen to the Standing Rock Sioux, do the right thing, and shut down the pipeline.

Making a call is easy, just follow these simple steps:
  1. Call 1-202-816-6137.
You'll hear an introductory message that will provide you with more information, and then you'll be connected with the White House comment line.

  2. Use this sample script or speak from the heart:
"Hi. I'm calling to ask President Trump and the Army Corps of Engineers to listen to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and do the right thing by shutting down this pipeline. The Dakota Access Pipeline has already had several spills in just a few weeks and jeopardizes the health and safety of the Tribe. The Army Corps must conduct a thorough environmental review this time and put a stop to this dangerous pipeline. Thanks."

  3. After you make the call, prove Trump wrong and send him a tweet to let him know you called. Include a photo of yourself on the phone if you feel comfortable. Here's a sample tweet:
Hey @realDonaldTrump! It's time for a new enviro review of Dakota Access. Listen to tribes this time! #NoDAPL
Last year, 15,000 people -- including veterans and hundreds of Tribes from around the world -- traveled to North Dakota to peacefully support the Standing Rock Sioux and oppose this dangerous pipeline. Their prayers and songs were met by a militarized police force using dogs, water cannons, rubber bullets, pepper spray, concussion grenades, and other tactics designed to intimidate, dehumanize, and invoke fear.

There's no question that a fair and comprehensive environmental review would show that this pipeline threatens the safety of every community it cuts through, including the ancestral lands of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. We must hold the Trump administration accountable for putting corporate profits over the rights and safety of Native peoples. Make a call to 1-202-816-6137 now.

Let’s use Facebook and Twitter to brand jam PepsiCo and call for it to end palm oil production that’s spreading real heatwaves -- and droughts, and melting ice caps

This summer will be hot -- and despite PepsiCo rolling out a new “Heatwave” Doritos flavor, it’s not just the chips.

The PepsiCo PR team should have thought twice about naming its spicy summer Doritos flavor “Heatwave.” The “hot” new flavor is a reminder of the loopholes in PepsiCo’s palm oil policies that have its suppliers literally setting fires to Indonesian rainforest.

2016 was the hottest year on record, and with companies like PepsiCo linked to reckless palm oil production that clears rainforests and endangers orangutans, 2017 is shaping up to be no different. As PepsiCo’s conflict palm oil heats up the planet, it’s time for us to turn up the heat on Pepsi. Heatwave Doritos give us a great chance to embarrass PepsiCo in front of its customers.

Let’s use Facebook and Twitter to brand jam PepsiCo and call for it to end palm oil production that’s spreading real heatwaves -- and droughts, melting ice caps, and worse -- across the world.
Follow the steps below to make your voices heard:
Step 2: Copy and paste the following message or write your own words as a comment on one of Doritos' top Facebook posts:
Doritos’ parent company PepsiCo is heating up this summer with a cinnamon-spiked new drink called Pepsi Fire and Doritos Heatwave chips. But we’re more concerned with the fire that Pepsi’s NOT advertising: the slash-and-burn techniques of suppliers in its #palmoil supply chain. #DoritosHeatwave #PepsiFire #deforestation  https://actions.sumofus.org/a/pepsi-fire-palm-oil/?source=fb

Take Action: Protect Arizona's National Monuments before it's too late!

Unless you've been hiding under a rock (we wouldn't blame you if you have), you likely know the Trump administration has placed our national monuments on the chopping block. The Department of Interior is reviewing national monuments greater than 100,000 acres in size that were designated since 1996 under the Antiquities Act, determining if they should be reduced in size or dismantled altogether.

This assault includes four monuments in Arizona: Grand Canyon-Parashant, Vermilion Cliffs, Sonoran Desert, and Ironwood Forest. Each of these is on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and was designated to protect cultural and historic sites, rare and diverse wildlife and plants, fascinating geology, recreation opportunities, and more. These monuments are important for our state and our nation and should remain intact.

Secretary Zinke recently recommended that Bears Ears National Monument be substantially reduced in size. Although no official decision has been made, we fear that he may have similar recommendations for other monuments.

Please, speak out on the importance of our monuments!

Sign the petition: Tell your members of Congress to join the court case to stop Trump from violating the Constitution

This is big news! 196 congressional Democrats filed a lawsuit to hold Trump accountable to the Constitution.

Your Congressperson, Rep. McSally, hasn't joined the suit. In the Senate, Sen. McCain hasn't joined the suit and Sen. Flake hasn't joined.

Sign the petition: Tell your members of Congress to join the court case to stop Trump from violating the Constitution – or thank them if they already have.

This is history in the making. Never before has so many Congress members filed a lawsuit against a sitting president.1 And with good reason – we’ve never had a president who has taken foreign money in the form of profits from their business enterprise.

The Constitution specifically bans public officials – including the president – from accepting payments or gifts from foreign governments without consent from Congress.

Trump still owns hotels all across the world, and his business empire presents a golden opportunity for foreign governments to funnel money directly into Trump’s pockets. This isn’t nitpicky legalese; the Emoluments Clause is a core anti-corruption measure written into the Constitution to protect the president and other officials from being unduly influenced by foreign countries.

Trump, being influenced by a foreign power, where have we heard that before?

Even former President Jimmy Carter sold his peanut farm. By not divesting himself from his business empire, and letting foreign governments grease his palms with payments to the Trump Organization, Donald Trump is violating the Constitution. Now Democrats are holding him accountable.

We elect people to Congress to represent us and uphold the Constitution. Tell your Congress members to get on board and join the lawsuit to hold Trump accountable, if they haven’t already.

Kick off the Summer of Resistance on Sunday June 25

"You never forget the feeling of taking part in non-violent direct action. For me, it’s a combination of anticipation and adrenaline. It’s the empowerment and the love that come from taking big risks for something I know to be right — like peacefully blocking an oil rig from setting sail to drill in the Arctic — that compel me to put my body on the line," wrote Rachel Rye Butler

Bold acts like these bring our communities together. They remind us of our shared responsibility to one another. And they continue to prove how much power we the people truly hold if we’re willing to use it.

This is what gives me hope that the resistance movement can defeat Trump’s attacks on our climate and democracy.

We need courageous, creative acts of peaceful resistance more than ever if we’re going to stand up to Trump’s dangerous agenda. Join us as we launch the Summer of Resistance with a huge creative resistance training webcast on Sunday June 25. RSVP today!

The Summer of Resistance is one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever seen Greenpeace take on. We’re training thousands of people in non-violent direct action and inspiring more than 100 acts of creative resistance across the country to fight for a green, peaceful, and just future.

At a time when the Trump administration is working on all fronts to advance its hateful agenda, the Greenpeace community is coming together to learn the skills of creative communication, peaceful protest, and non-violent direct action necessary to step up our resistance.

AND we’re putting those skills to work in our communities in big way.

It all starts on Sunday June 25 at 1pm PDT / 4pm EDT. Can I count on you to join us? RSVP today to power a wave of creative action to protect our climate and communities from Trump’s agenda.

Just two weeks ago, many of us were angered and saddened by Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement, setting back global climate progress and leaving the world’s most vulnerable communities to pay the price.

These kinds of assaults on our climate and our human rights are unacceptable — and that’s what the Summer of Resistance is all about. If Trump and his administration of climate-deniers and racists think they can push through their agenda against the will of the American people, it is up to us to show them they are wrong. We will RESIST!

We’ve got an ambitious plan to do just that, and your involvement is critical. Join us on Sunday June 25 to kick off the Summer of Resistance and take YOUR resistance to the next level.

Urge Your Senators to Oppose ACA Repeal. It's up for a vote now!

THIS is the moment.

Right now Senate Republican leaders are finalizing the details of their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA)—in secret. They’re keeping the bill hidden until they’ve negotiated a deal with other Republicans, one that will very likely strip health care coverage from millions of people, including taking away Medicaid coverage and putting maternity coverage at risk.

We can’t let them reach that deal. We need to flood the Senate phone lines now.

Urge Your Senators to Oppose ACA Repeal

Here are simple steps for calling your Senators.
Step 1: Call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to one of your Senators.
Step 2: Once you are connected, say:

“As your constituent, I urge you to reject ACA repeal. No one should lose their health coverage, and this repeal bill threatens the health care of millions of people including women, elderly people, children, and people with disabilities. [If you have a personal story to share, adding why the ACA has been important to you is an especially powerful message.]"
Step 3: Hang up, call again and ask for your other Senator.

We are at a critical point in our fight to protect affordable health care. And yet, we’re hearing news reports that the Senate phones lines have been mostly quiet. There is too much at stake for any of us to stay silent right now. Whether you think your Senators oppose repeal or not, every call matters. Pick up the phone now and do your part to protect our care!

If this repeal bill is similar to the House version like Senate Republican leaders and the Trump administration have promised, it would be devastating for women by:

Blocking people from getting preventive health care at Planned Parenthood health centers, including birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment;
Radically changing the Medicaid program in ways that will leave low-income women without essential health coverage;

*Allowing insurance plans to treat being a woman as a preexisting condition;
*Penalizing women seeking insurance coverage that includes abortion.

None of us can afford to sit this fight out. We need to call our Senators today – AND tomorrow – to show them that We, the Resistance will not stand for any attacks on our care.

- Gretchen Borchelt
National Women's Law Center

P.S. Do you or your friends or loved ones live in any of these states: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Maine, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia? The Senators there may be on the fence, so it’s extra important that they hear from their constituents in opposition of ACA repeal. Make sure to forward this email and tell your friends it is crucial that they call their Senators today.
