PUBLIC COMMENTS OPEN on rule further restricting legal immigration

The Trump Administration has officially announced a proposal that would dramatically restrict legal immigration. The proposed rule, "Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds," would mean that immigrants likely to qualify for almost any public aid – including Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), housing benefits, and more – could be ruled inadmissible. This would impact millions of people, the vast majority of whom are working hard to provide for their families.
This rule is simply wrong. Immigrants work hard because they know that America is the land of opportunity – receiving limited support on their path to self-sufficiency should not be grounds for turning them away. If you agree, make a public comment opposing this rule now.
The vast majority of immigrants potentially affected by this proposal are working hard to provide for their families -- 91% are employed, and collectively they earn more than $100 billion every year..

Never submitted a public comment before? Here are some tips, and a sample that you can use as the basis for your own comment:
  1. Speak from your personal, professional, and/or community experience. Share relevant stories and be as specific as possible.
  2. Use data to back up your argument (see sample statistics below).
  3. Clearly state your position on the proposed rule.
Sample comment: "This proposed rule is wrong and would hurt our economy and communities. The vast majority of immigrants potentially affected by this proposal are working hard to provide for their families -- 91% are employed, and collectively they earn more than $100 billion every year. Furthermore, this rule would needlessly harm industries like construction and manufacturing that we need to grow. I oppose this rule."
Our country has been built by immigrants who came here with nothing but their aspirations, and created the America we love today. We simply cannot shut the door on the people who will keep our country strong. Make your public comment today.
